Phlebitis

Phlebitis is the inflammation of a vein, usually in the legs. It can start with redness and warmth creating a hot, inflamed painful area. There may be pain or burning along the length of the vein. The vein can feel hard and cord-like. There may be swelling of the vein (edema) and of the general area

Phlebitis is an inflammatory disease that can be caused by certain bacteria, chemical toxins, physical trauma, pharmaceuticals (including Celebrex, Olanzepine, antidepressants), and alcohol abuse

Deep vein thrombosis. Sometimes blood clots can form, a condition known as thrombophlebitis. An embolism is the movement of one of these blood clots in the blood vessels. It is a potentially fatal condition if a blood clot moves to the lungs (pulmonary embolism), heart or brain and causes a blockage (thrombosis)

Susceptible people face an increased risk when flying - cramped for hours at a time with limited movement. They should try to get up and move around every half an hour if possible, wear loose clothing, and drink plenty of water

Warning. If suffering from phlebitis or thrombosis do NOT massage. There is a danger that a blood clot can move to the lungs, heart or brain
