Remedy Life Style Changes
Following a mild heart attack and a diagnosis of coronary artery disease (CAD), with the left coronary showing 40% occlusion and the right coronary 100% blocked, I received placement of one stent to open up the left artery. But the right artery "normally would require by-pass surgery" the cardiologist said. However, your body has "established a collateral artery, sort of a natural by-pass," he said.
After discharge from the hospital, I determined to do whatever I could do to strengthen and enlarge the right collateral artery and adopt a life style that would help clear all of arteries of plaque - what I began calling, after a lifetime of addiction to ice cream - the Hagen-Daz disease.
I went on what was essentially a "raw food diet" - mostly raw fresh fruit, fresh or steamed vegetables, whole grains, nuts and seeds. I did indulge in cold water fish and a little skinless chicken breast on occasion, but I adopted basically a 80% raw food diet. No red meat, no sugar, no dairy, no refined starches, minimal packaged food, and NO ICE CREAM!
Next, I researched natural supplements recommended for CAD and found two among the many that I began taking daily. Those two were designed to clear away plaque and keep the arteries supple and the blood running smoothly. These two were Nattokinase (from natto) and Serrapeptase (from the silkworm). The nattokinase is basically a blood thinner, and functions as an anti-blood clot supplement, keeping the blood running smoothly throughout the vascular system. The serrapeptase is an enzyeme used by the silkworm to eat a hole in its cuccoon so it can exit and fly away as a moth. Serrapeptase is reputed to consume anything that is not tissue, such as plaque. It will weave its way through the arterial system like PAC-MAN eating up all that is not living tissue. My internal experience is that my arteries are being cleaned up, although I have had no examinations to validate that result. I do know that I am experiencing more vitality and stamina progressively as the months roll by.
I also include chlorella and spirulina in my daily breakfast blended smoothie with kale, blueberries, pure pomegranate juice, fresh ginger, fresh lemon, strawberries, and half a banana. I usually have a green salad for lunch, or just nibble on nuts and seed during the afternoon. I drink 6 to 8 cups of green tea daily, and purified water. I eat brown rice, lentils, and black beans, but refrain from eating most baked goods, as I follow a mainly gluten-free diet.
Also, I am walking more each day building up my exercise routine. I walk up the escalators out of the Metro subway stations and climb further towards the top as time goes by, although I do run out of breath on some of the longer stairways.
I decided that I could not blame my CAD entirely on my ice cream addiction, but that it was likely in the main caused by inflammation in my arteries, caused by stress and anxiety, which I experienced regularly due to my old age, my stressful deadlined, high-pressure work and personal financial circumstances.
I am off all prescriptives. Do not take aspirin. But I do take a number of natural supplements that are recommended for heart patients, including heavy dosages of Vitamin C (9 to 12 grams daily), a One-a-Day multi-vitamin, L-Taurine, Magnesium, Rutin,
